What is Aadhar card?
First, Let us see What Aadhar card is.
Aadhar is the unique identity that has been provided to people in India. It is like one of the other government Identities such as voter id, ration card and other IDs.
It has all the details about you. The Aadhar comes with a 12 Digit Unique identification number.
This has been given to all the people in India. Those who did not get their Aadhar yet should get it as soon as possible.
Because it has many features and the Indian Government has been giving High priority for Aadhar card.
The idea was initially proposed on 1999 without the intention to cover the entire nation. It was an idea to issue id cards to people who are living near the border.
Later the government realized the requirement for the expansion for the Aadhar card issuance to all other areas.
It took 10 more years to start a project with the name of Aadhar. The government established UIDAI to manage all those things regarding
- Collecting data from people
- Verifying the document
- Generating Aadhar
- Providing Aadhar
- Updating Aadhar and
- Associating Aadhar with third party services.
Since then, the government has been concentrating more on issuing Aadhar.
“As of 31 March 2017, there were more than 1.133 billion people got their Aadhar card.”
And still more people are being added in Aadhar database. The government also spent more than 1 billion USD for this project.
It helps to gain a lot of government benefits for the citizens who obtained their Aadhar card.
You can only have one Aadhar card because those fingerprints and retina detail is taken from you showcase the current profile of yours.
You can also link your PAN card to Aadhar. We will see that later in this article.
We will see what all the sections the Aadhar card has.
What is the Format of Aadhar card?
I already told you that the Aadhar card has the details about you.
I did not tell about the detail it has about you. Here I am going to show you the what are all the details the Aadhar card has about you.
The Aadhar card is compact in size same as your other identity. There are two ways you can get it.
One will be original Aadhar card sent by the government by postal to your given address. The other one is a digital copy that you can download from the official website by entering UID and mobile OTP authentication.
You can take print out of the PDF and use it anywhere else as your ID.
” Both the Original and Downloaded Copy has the same value. There is no need of bringing the original card sent to you by the UIDAI.”
Here are the details that Aadhar card contains.
Indian Government Logo
Name in Native Language
Name in English
QR scanning code
You address in English and Native Language.
The above said details are included in the card which you have downloaded from online.
But, the card you receive through portal has the enrollment number.
This enrollment number will be given to you when you take Aadhar card. This number is very important and you should remember the Enrollment number.
It helps you check your Aadhaar status after the enrollment.
Without EID, you cannot check UIDAI Enrollment status.
You may think this id contains same data as some other government-issued identities.
Aadhar card has more information than those other identities.
UIDAI maintains a very big database for Aadhar. The Aadhar database is connected to many other government resources.
You can link your Aadhar with your PAN card and bank account.
Mainly Aadhar card is integrated with the central government programs related to providing subsidies and wages given to the people who works under central government schemes.
One of the best examples is Mahatma Gandhi Rural Employment Guarantee scheme. All employees who are working under this scheme should integrate their Aadhar card to the bank account to get their wages.
Also, people who like to get a subsidy for gas also should associate the Aadhar with the bank account.
The Aadhar card has resolved the duplicate identity issues. Because one man can have only one Aadhar card since the fingerprint and Retina data are involved.
So, No one can easily cheat the government, and it helps the govt to track their citizens. This helps to identify people at the border and prevents the terrorist intrusion in the border villages.
Aadhar helps the government in a lot of ways.
The government keeps pushing people towards getting Aadhar card and at the same time, the court also has been warnings the government for making Aadhar Mandatory for everything.
This was a headache for people initially. But the thoughts have been changed slowly and people get to know the necessity of Aadhar.
If you are still thinking about getting Aadhar card, then read further. I will show you the benefits you will gain from Aadhar card.
What is the use of Aadhar card?
The specialty of Aadhar card is it has multiple uses, unlike other identities which have only one purpose.
Here are the list of benefits you can get from Aadhar.
Getting the passport is a time-consuming task since it requires a lot of certificates and verification process. Usually, it would take a month to get the passport in your hands.
You can also get the passport within the short time using another option (Tatkaal).
You have to spend some extra money on Tatkaal. Instead, you can get your passport faster than before.
Usually, you need to submit two proofs.
One is for your identity proof with photo and the other is your residential proof. The both proofs should match and even a single letter change will result in rejection of your applications.
Many people have suffered from the proof mismatching problem. It will take a long time for them to get all the documents to be corrected.
It will consume money also.
If you have Aadhar card, it will be easy for you to get your passport. Indian govt announced that the Aadhar is enough to get your passport.
It will be accepted as both identity and residential proof.
Once you enter your Aadhar number with your passport application, you will get your appointment within 3 days and within 7 days your passport will be dispatched.
The police verification will be done later.
See, How easy your job is.
Jan Dhan Yojana:
This is a second and biggest one and it can be obtained by almost all the people in India. This scheme has created Guinness world record.
“The Pratan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana scheme lets anyone open a bank account with Aadhar card as the only document.”
The specialty is it is a zero balance account.
However, you can also use some other documents to open the bank account under the scheme. The scheme has been started with an aim to create the bank account for all people in India.
This is the biggest benefit enjoyed by most of the people. Previously a person used to get the discount directly.
Since there were a lot of cheating activities happened, this scheme was introduced to make the subsidy to reach the right people.
According to this scheme, the subsidy will be directly deposited to your bank account. For that, you have to approach your GAS agency with your Aadhar card and bank account details.
This is yet another biggest benefit provided by the government. In the Digital Locker, you can store all your government documents digitally. The scanned copies of your mark sheet, voter ID and other documents can be stored.
You do not need to bring the physical copy everywhere. Instead, you can share the URL of the documents.
It also has the digital signature facility.
Carrying your physical document to many places is somewhat risky. This is where the Digital Locker reduces your burden.
You need not worry about losing your document somewhere else.
Just your digital copy is enough for everywhere.
The govt provides 10 MB spaces for every individual. Since you are only uploading the document, this space is enough for you.
However, the govt is planned to give 1 GB storage for all shortly.
This digital locker puts an end to the fake documents issue.
Once many scammers issued a lot of fake documents and fooled people and government.
This will prevent those activities to be carried out further.
The special thing is:
You only need your 12 Digit Aadhar number to open the Digital Locker account.
Prevents Duplicate Voter Ids:
This is yet another advantage of linking Aadhar card with voter id.
The vote counterfeit is the biggest issue in many places. In previous days it is possible for anyone to get multiple voter ids with different addresses.
As there was no centralized verification, it was easy to create multiple voter IDs. It will let anyone put the vote for their favorite party.
It is a threaten to nation democracy. This where the Aadhar card association with the voter id system came to rescue.
You have to link your Aadhar card with voter id and it should be done in front of the election officer.
So, the duplicate one will be eliminated from the list. This prevents people from voting at multiple places.
Also if they try, they will get caught.
Opening a New Bank Account without the Bunch of Documents:
In previous days, opening bank accounts were not that easy. You will need many documents that have to be verified to open a bank account.
This is a headache and you have to wait in the bank for a long time to open a single bank account.
The Aadhar made everything easy for you to open a bank account. Due to the centralized process, now the verification is no more needed to open a bank account.
Your Aadhar card itself enough to open a bank account without any further document. Some banks are providing the option to open the bank account on online by only giving Aadhar card details.
So, you can open a bank account yourself without even visiting the bank.
Linking bank account with Aadhar has many benefits. You can get LPG subsidy, other subsidies and country wide access.
The Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employments requires Aadhar card to deposit wages directly to the bank account for the people works under this scheme.
Students can avail their scholarship easily through their bank account if they link the Aadhar card with the bank account.
If you are not yet convinced, here are few more reasons to convince yourself to get Aadhar card.
Digital Life Certificate:
In previous days, the pensioner should go to the pension Disbursing office to get the pension. This is a very tired thing that will struggle most of the senior citizens.
The Department of Electronics and IT put an end to this by introducing the “Jeevan Praman for Pensioners.” The pension disbursing agency can access all the details through the Aadhar card number.
The fraudulence activity will come to an end. Also, the real pensioners will get the pension without visiting the agency.
If you are a person who likes to invest in stock market, this will be good news for you. The SEBI now accepts Aadhar card as one of the proof for letting you invest in stock market.
Previously getting a SIM card is a time taking process.
The SIM card provider will give you an inactivated SIM and you have to give your proof.
After some time, the operator will call your number and ask for the exact address proof which you have given at the time of registration.
After you confirmed the address with them, your sim card will be activated. It might take a long time.
Now, the situation has changed. All you have to do is just give you Aadhar card detail and finger print for verification.
An activated sim card will be given to you. You don’t need any further verification and you don’t need to wait for your SIM card to be activated.
After all, I believe that you are convinced now.
Let us see how to Get Aadhar card for you.
I am sure this is not the time-consuming task such as getting other govt documents.

What to do if you lost the aadhar card?
First thing i want to say “Dont worry”
If you lost your aadhar card, you can download a duplicate copy of aadhar card from UIDAI portal.
The Duplicate and original both has the same value.
All Aadhar data are centralized and accessible and verifiable by officials. So the both duplicate and original one has the same value.
If you know your Aadhar number or EID number, your task will be easy.
You can download the duplicate copy from the UIDAI portal.
If you dont know EID or UID, just refer how to retrieve UID and EID.
For that, you should have registered your mobile number or email ID at the time of enrollment.
Otherwise, it is not possible to retrieve EID/UID through online.
You have to visit the nearest Aadhar enrollment center.
Just refer that to download the copy of your Aadhar card.
How to secure your Aadhar authentication?
To avoid the misuse of your finger prints, you should lock in the UIDAI portal.
The UIDAI portal will allow the Aadhar holders to lock and unlock bio metrics authentication.
You need to login to the Portal with your Aadhar number. For that you should have registered your mobile number at the time of enrollment.
If you dont have any mobile number associated with the Aadhar number, then you cannot use this option.
Since aadhar card is associated with many things, you can get instant access to some services.
The third parties are also using the bio-metrics system get your personal detail and provide the service.
This is always not safe for you to share your bio metrics data anywhere.
The UIDAI has the option to lock your bio metrics data so it wont be shared with any other parties to verify your details.
So, once you locked you cannot provide your Aadhar authentication through your bio metrics data.
This can be an inconvenience to you. But, the security always comes first.
However, if you want to use your bio metrics data, then you can do that by disabling the locking system.
To Lock your bio metrics data, go to this URL https://resident.uidai.gov.in/biometric-lock.
It comes under Aadhar services in the main UIDAI portal. You can navigate to this page from the UIDAI home page.
You can see the details about Bio Metrics lock option. Below that you can see the Lock Your Biometrics section.
To do this, First you have to login to the portal using your Aadhar number.
The OTP will be sent to the associated mobile number. Enter the OTP to login.
Now, you have enabled the bio metrics lock. No one can access your bio metrics data to authorize you to provide any service.
If you want to disable it, then you can login to the UIDAI portal in the same way and disable the lock.
However, the government is little by little making the Aadhar requirement for everything. So, enabling the bio metrics lock will trouble you in many ways in the future.
But, it is your choice to make decision to enable or disable the lock.
Since it is a micro task, you can do that any time.

You can even see that you cannot use the PAN card as a proof of identity in most of the place. The reason is the trustworthy of the PAN detail is low.
People who take multiple PAN card will use the each individual PAN for particular amount of transaction and then they will use another PAN card.
When they use PAN card with particular cash limit, they can avoid the tax. This will result in a loss to the government.
Previously it was a tough to identify the duplicated PAN cards. Now, it is very easy to find the duplicate PAN card.

Our India’s Aadhar system inspired the China and they are going to implement a system like Aadhar.
It helps them to collect data about the people and coordinate them in various ways to provide the government scheme.
Due to the population and economic similarities between India and China, the China government has decided to give a try.
There were a lot of cases also going on Aadhar. It is all about two things. They are
- Making Aadhar mandatory for government schemes.
- Linking Aadhar with PAN card.
Even though many people are against the Aadhar card decision, it benefits a lot of people.
And the benefit has overtaken the drawbacks the Aadhar has created.
The main drawback was the government inability to protect the Aadhar data. More than 30 million Aadhar data were stolen from the database.
Initially it was created withthe intention to identify people at the nation border. But it ended up in multiple use.
It benefits people and back fires the culprits. Once it was tough to get the money under any central government scheme and getting subsidies also very diehard task for people.
Since the Government officials were directly involved, they money did not reach the end user at the right time and most of the time they could not even get a single penny.
All money were eaten by the mid people. But the Aadhar changed everything.
There is no mid level officials to eat your money. There is no need of multiple attempts. Your money will reach your bank account.
Aadhar is a boon for poor people. But sometimes it gives trouble.
